we all know him,that uncertain fear, waiting in the dark:
the monster that folds into gaunt shadow
when we look, that haunting kiss on the spine
from that something that lingers behind us
and breathes below Fahrenheit, the nightmare
that is only, and always, just a dream.
We return to the light. Fear is replaced
by security and warmth: delusion.
We put it from our heads, recall, forget.
It is only when that fear follows us
into the day, dogs us, whispers cruel things
into the silence, that we learn whether
we are dreamers or husks.  Dreamers can choose
deaf naiveté...husks fill until they burst.
Devil's StareImagine every blue: washboard music and top shelf whiskey, painted Virgins' robes and IKB-slicked flesh, James Dean jeans, gaping police box doors, fairy tale beards and suffocated lips, doomed Rococo pageantry, wedding superstition, icebergs in the night, and the angler fish, his lamp calling from the black.

Gather together these shades, and all unspeakable shades. The unthinkable. Every inconceivable hue. Make the whole universe blue, constricting as it falls on itself. Only then will you know why those eyes are bloodless spring and cold heaven.

The end of all things waits in his gaze—and new universes that too shall fall.
He WhispersI've laughed, and I've cried.
I've loved, I left, I lived, I died, and life went on, and, God, so did I.
I eat. I die, I sleep, I dream! And then I wake up, and life goes on. On, anon. Come plague, come atom bomb.
There is no rest.
10:59 amToday I met terminal cancer.

Her frame was six foot, her hair an inch, her smile light as we shared the elevator in that easy silence strangers have.

It was only after we both turned left and stopped together at the open door, after partygoers, my senior co-workers, winced smiles within, and after office-circulated Hallmark cards to a faceless woman, awkward in their avoidance of, 'Get Well Soon,' filled my mind, that I realized I had walked with the dying.

When I draw, I like the subtle expressions. One day, I want people to look at a piece I've done and think that a pair of hands or eyes, a crooked smile or nose, a bare ankle or throat is so alive, so complex, so telling, that you could meet its owner on the street years later in the shadows, in the fog, alone in the midnight hour, and immediately know you've found an old friend.

Well, I can dream. And practice.

Hey gurl, we need to set aside a night to chat. I'm free as a bird until next Tuesday and Thursday. I got class from 6-7:15. Currently out job hunting, as I quit Party City. I might go back, but I dunno. SO many things I want to talk about.

Very nice exercise.
I keep wanting to try my hand at sequential art, but I mourn the fact that there's nothing stand-out about my drawings. Doing exercises like this - where one is trying to capture the subtly of gesture is likely just the thing I need.

Try pausing a movie and moving it forward one frame at a time. The works better if the camera or the object is still. Old movies have stable shots and black and white can be easier to tanslate to a drawing.
