First of the new oil paintings. I'm working traditional again, and it's glorious.

This image came out of one of the "sanity" hikes I would take while studying abroad. It's the start of a whole series from those wanderlust moments. I really, really miss these trees. Yeah, they take half an hour into the wilderness to hike to, and you start to feel like you're one wrong step from entering a Disney's Snow White horror sequence, but this section of the Bois d'Amour is hauntingly gorgeous. Druids worshipped in these woods centuries ago, and there's always a feeling that something is lurking at your back. It's also a complete non-surprise that Gauguin painted here; the saturated colors are a punch to the face. For example, this was from a particularly overcast day...in late November.
