A deviaton I made to use as an ArtRage stencil went semi-viral on me this week (from nothing to 200 favs a day...you guys are equally totally awesome and completely mental):
Anyway, it made me remember this tutorial series I had started to make but never posted. I love ArtRage because it's ungodly cheap but blows Photoshop out of the water when it comes to digital painting. Also, Corel doesn't work on my computer for someone reason they won't explain to me or refund me for,
, so I've thrown my hat in with the little guy.

Some graphics tablets come bundled with art software when they're bought new. I just happen to hate all the programs. Do your research, then buy new or hunt for a deal on Amazon, Ebay, etc. (and this is very important) from a seller with a high rating!
ONE MORE THING (iPad Users!)
No joke, I started bouncing when I learned this. There's an Artrage app and a company that makes a paintbrush stylus that actually works! I may be getting an iPad soon instead of buying a new laptop. (This one is about to die...seriously, the click button stopped working yesterday and the CD slot is has warped into a subtly mocking smile.

So that's easily under $50...if someone in your household has an iPad you can snag.

I've had both the $40 version of ArtRage on the computer and the ArtRage app on the iPad... it's really awesome! 
From what I can tell most of the functions of the $40 one are there (I don't really recall though what's missing. I think something is though... but I haven't painted on my computer in a really long time. xD)
I recommend the Sensu Brush or 'The Flow' as brushes instead though--the Nomad brush doesn't really have much resistance and bends far too easily. Sensu Brush isn't out yet but you can find it on Kickstarter and buy one as soon as it's open!
